Our Story

Wood Through the Seasons — The Muzi Chunqiu Story

We do not make fast furniture. We never have.

At Muzi Chunqiu, we believe that a tree spends decades—sometimes centuries—growing in the forest. To cut it down and turn it into something disposable is a waste of nature’s patience. That is why we create furniture meant to outlast us.

Our journey began with a simple belief: good wood deserves a second life. We source demolition-house old timber—wood that has already weathered decades of changing seasons. Then we pair it with the ancient wisdom of mortise and tenon joinery, crafting pieces that are not just beautiful today but built to be passed down to children and grandchildren.

We are not the biggest workshop. But we are among the most careful. Every piece we make is touched by human hands, not assembly lines. Every joint is cut with precision, not haste.

This is not just furniture. This is wood that remembers where it came from—and knows where it is going.

Eight Woods, One Standard — From Classic to Collectors‘ Tier

We work with eight distinguished species, carefully selected for their character, rarity, and beauty. Our collection is divided into two tiers — Classic Selection for timeless everyday elegance, and Collectors’ Series for those seeking the rarest treasures nature has to offer.

Collectors’ Series

Wood Species Key Characteristics

Pterocarpus Santalinus (小叶紫檀 / Indian Red Sandalwood) The emperor of woods. Extremely rare, dense as iron, with a deep purple-red hue that darkens and enriches over centuries. Prized by Chinese royalty for over a thousand years. A true museum-grade treasure.

Ebony (千年乌木 / Diospyros Celebica) Jet-black with mesmerizing golden or silver streaks. Naturally polished by time itself—formed from ancient trees buried for millennia. Each piece is unique, irreplaceable, and carries the memory of the earth.

Vietnamese Golden Sandalwood (越南黄花梨 / Huanghuali) The most coveted sandalwood in the world. Luminous golden-brown with ghostly, swirling grain patterns that seem to float across the surface. Its legendary fragrance alone sets it apart from all others.

Lao Siam Rosewood (老挝红酸枝特选 / Lao PDR Siamese Rosewood) The pinnacle of the rosewood family. Selected from old-growth Lao forests, offering deeper color, tighter grain, and significantly higher natural oil content than standard-grade Siamese Rosewood. Uncompromising quality for the discerning collector.
OUR CRAFTSMANSHIP

The Art of Joinery — No Nails, No Glue

Look under any piece of Muzi Chunqiu furniture. You will not find a single metal screw or nail.

Instead, you will find Sun Mao (mortise and tenon) —a joinery system invented by Chinese craftsmen over 2,000 years ago. It works like this: one piece of wood is carved with a cavity (the mortise), and another is shaped with a matching protrusion (the tenon). They lock together with surgical precision. No glue. No nails. Just wood holding wood.

This is not a cost-saving technique. It is the most labor-intensive way to build furniture. But it is also the only way to ensure that a chair can sit firmly for a hundred years, and a table can withstand the expansion and contraction of wood through every season.
